UN Summer Camp for Children Attacked in Gaza

Ugh.  It seems that a group of some 20 masked gunmen stormed a UN-administered summer camp in Gaza and vandalized the place.  They tied up the guard and left a note threatening the United Nations in Gaza.

Extracting Benefits From The Natural Resource Industry

Mining giants haven’t failed to take note of opportunities in West Africa. The Financial Times reports that six major mining groups are planning on spending billions of dollars in Liberia, Guinea and Sierra Leone in a bid to profit from the region’s rich resources, particularly iron ore.

Embedded With Afghan Civil Society – Part 4 – The Road to Yakawlang

In May 2010, I was given the opportunity to accompany the Afghanistan Human Rights and Democracy Organization (AHRDO), an NGO that promotes human rights through arts and culture, as its staff conducted participatory theater workshops as psycho-social therapy and organized civilian war victims to take an active role in shaping the national debate over the government’s intention to negotiate with some of the insurgent factions currently battling Afghan and international forces.

Texas School Board Wants to Spread Mis-Information about the United Nations To Texan Children

Some members of the Texas School Board could use some education themselves. In a controversial decision today, the board adopted new social studies and history curriculum that stretches credulity.  A core of board members sought to use their position as platform to advance their ideological agenda, which apparently includes some UN-bashing.
