xfam health workers in Dadaab prepare to distribute 7,000 jerry cans and bars of soap to newly arrived refugees who have walked for many days across the desert from Somalia. The Dadaab camps are severely overcrowded and clean water is scarce. Without sanitised jerry cans to store the water, it can quickly become contaminated and risk spreading disease. Ifo section.Dadaab camp is the largest refugee camp in the world with people fleeing the civil war in Somalia.  In recent months the rate of new arrivals has increased dramatically due to the added factor of drought that is affecting the region. It has now become severely overcrowded.

What Can Be Done About the Somalia Famine? Hint: It’s not a problem than can be droned away.

War is not the answer. How a combination of diplomacy and more funding for the humanitarian response can confront the famine in Somalia.
