Debate Over Syrian Mortar Attack in Turkey Exposes Security Council Divide, Once Again

At Turkey’s request, the Security Council is attempting to issue a statement condemning the Syrian cross-border mortar attack that killed 5 Turkish civilians yesterday.  It would appear, however, that even this cross border violence has not done much to dislodge certain Security Council members from their previously held positions.

Turkey Launches Strikes Inside Syria

Reuters is reporting that the Turkish military has carried out air strikes inside Syria. Those attacks come in response to a mortar attack fired from Syria over the border in Turkey that killed at least five people, today including a woman and her three children.

Angelina Jolie when she visits places as Special Envoy for the UN Refugee Agency, the cameras follow.  Such was the case in Jordan, Lebanon and Turkey this week when Jolie and the UN’s High Commissioner for Refugees visited camps set up to house Syrians fleeing the violence in their home country.
