What #GivingTuesday Is All About

Black Friday was last Friday.  Cyber Monday is today. That can mean only one thing: tomorrow is #GivingTuesday

The goal is to make #GivingTuesday as synonymous with the holiday season as Black Friday and Cyber Monday. Just as these are days dedicated to buying, there should be a day set aside for supporting your favorite charity.

It is a simple idea and is catching on. Fast. NPR profiled the effort just this morning.

As you can tell by the hashtagged name, the social media component of the movement is key to spreading the word about this new national day. My own Twitter feed is already chock full of #GivingTuesday messages, as I am sure yours will be tomorrow.  (You may not be suprised to know that many of the same groups behind the Social Good Summit are backing #GivingTuesday, including the United Nations Foundation and the 92Y.)

So, make a gift. Tag it tomorrow on Facebook and Twitter, and you can help build a movement to inject the holiday season with something bigger, better and certainly more meaningful than “Black Friday” or “Cyber Monday.”
