Yesterday, USAID announced a new partnership between the Agency and Brazil’s development agency, called the Agencia Brasileira de Cooperacao (ABC). I caught up with Deputy Assistant Administrator Mark Lopes of USAID who discussed some of the details of the cooperative arrangement, which includes a professional staff exchange program between their agencies to “facilitate peer-to-peer learning on donor best practices around the world.”
What I find particularly interesting is the role of rapidly developing countries in global development. It was not so long ago that Brazil was a major recipient of foreign aid. Now it is emerging as a donor country. So what lessons can Brazil teach the world about how to get development right? Have a listen to my conversation with Mark Lopes.
