By: Mark Leon Goldberg on November 15, 2012 As noted in Top of the Morning, the UN Population Fund released its flagship annual report, State of the World Population. This years’ report focused on the financial boon that results when women are better able to access family planning services. The report calculates that an estimated $11 billion can be saved from costs associated with maternal health and child health resulting from unintended pregnancies. The report is titled “By Choice, Not By Chance” and is accompanied by this interesting mini-documentary about how Uganda is working to increase education around family planning. And these two charts tell the global policy challenge: BUT Bringing modern family planning services to women and men who want them is one of the great global challenges of our era.
