SG in DC: The SG met with new Secretary of State John Kerry this morning. The two leaders discussed the nuclear tests in DPRK, Syria, Mali, and Iran.
The SG: The SG arrived in Washington DC this morning. Addressing the Permanent Council of the Organization of American States, he noted that the global influence of the Americas as a whole was on the rise.
DPRK: The SG strongly condemned Pyongyang's nuclear weapons test this morning at a SC session on the issue. Mr. Ban said that the test is a clear and grave violation of the relevant SC resolutions and is a direct challenge to the Council.
Iraq: The SG today strongly condemned Saturday’s mortar attack on Camp Liberty - the temporary transit center near Baghdad for former residents of Camp Ashraf - which killed a number of residents and injured Iraqi police officers.
Myanmar: The SG yesterday welcomed a joint statement issued by Myanmar’s Peacemaking Committee and the delegation of the Kachin Independence Organization in China, in which they agreed to work on an overall framework for de-escalate the violent conflict in Kachin state.
