Infographic of the Day: The HIV/AIDS “Tipping Point”

The AIDS advocacy organization AVAC produced a fascinating infographic to explain a key concept in the fight against HIV/AIDS: the “tipping point.”  This is when the number of new infections each year falls below the number of people newly on anti-retroviral treatment.

This tipping point is crucial because these days HIV is not a death sentence–and HIV treatment can also help stop the spread of HIV/AIDS.  As you can see from the chart below, some countries  like Cote D’Ivoire, Botswana and Haiti have crossed the tipping point, while other large countries like Nigeria are still firmly on the losing side.
