It’s #GivingTuesday, And Everyone Knows It

Happy #GivingTuesday, everyone! Last year, I had to explain what #GivingTuesday was all about. This year, not so much. It looks like everyone is getting involved! Heck, even my childhood summer camp sent me an email encouraging me to be philanthropic today.

The point is everyone knows that the Tuesday after Black Friday and Cyber Monday is #GivingTuesday. What you probably don’t know is that the idea of #GivingTuesday was  hatched last year as a collaboration between the 92Y in New York City and the United Nations Foundation. (Two of the founding members of the Social Good Summit). In one short year, #GivingTuesday became global phenomenon, completely decentralized and inspiring millions of people to contribute to non-profits who are using the day to inspire their supporters.

This speaks to the power of social media, for sure. But also to the innate generosity of the human spirit.

Happy #GivingTuesday, All.
