As you can see, there are dozens of countries in which girls are permitted to marry at a younger age than boys. You can compare that this this map depicting the minimum legal age for marriage of girls around the world. Child marriage is a human right violation and deterrent to economic development. Fortunately, there is growing international pressure to end child marriage. The UN Population Fund (UNFPA) is a leader on this issue and has a GREAT resource page on child marriage.
