China Braces for Back-to-Back Typhoons

This could be a rough week for coastal China. “Eastern China is braced for the arrival of Typhoon Fitow which is expected to make landfall to the north of Taiwan late on Sunday. Meanwhile Typhoon Danas is following in its wake, but is expected to curve north into southern Japan later this week. Hundreds of fishing boats, cargo vessels and oil tankers have been ordered back into port on the coast of Zhejiang Province. This came after China issued a red alert, the highest in its warning system, and urged local authorities to call in boats and move tourists visiting the coast and nearby islands during the week long National Day holiday.” (Al Jazeera http://aje.me/1hvkK8J)

Scores Killed in Egypt Clashes

The worst clashes in weeks. “At least 50 people have been killed and scores hurt in Egypt in clashes between police and supporters of the deposed Islamist President Mohammed Morsi. More than 200 members of the Muslim Brotherhood were arrested in Cairo, where most of the deaths were reported. Supporters of Mr Morsi marched in several cities, as the military-backed government marked the 40th anniversary of the 1973 Arab-Israeli war.” (BBC http://bbc.in/GGmgK2)
