Obama to Announce New Measures to Curb Climate Change

In a much anticipated speech today, President Obama will spell out a series of executive actions the White House will take in the coming months to curb carbon emissions and support clean technology. “The centerpiece of the plan is a push to issue new regulations that would curb greenhouse-gas emissions from existing power plants, according to people briefed on the plan by the administration. Security Council Takes Aim at Sexual Violence in Conflict

Angelina Jolie had a starring role in a meeting of the Security Council dedicated to combating sexual violence in armed conflict. “During a debate on women and peace and security, the 15-member body today unanimously adopted resolution 2106, by which it emphasized more consistent and rigorous investigation and prosecution of sexual violence crimes as a central aspect of deterrence, and ultimately prevention.
