USA Pledges $155 Million to Syrian Humanitarian Efforts

The $155 million announced by President Obama represents 10% of the $1.5 billion appeal launched by the UN in December.

As I wrote yesterday, funding the humanitarian effort is the opportunity for those who profess to support the plight of the Syrian people to walk the talk. Keeping refugees fed and children inoculated is not only the morally righteous thing to go, it also helps contain the regional fallout of the Syria crisis.

$155 million is a nice kickstart to tomorrow’s pledging conference in Kuwait. But we will know by tomorrow whether or not this is enough to spur other countries to open up their checkbooks accordingly.
